The Mountain Strong Scholarship

The Mountain Strong Recovery Network is proud to offer two (2) $5,000 scholarships to high school seniors from Yancey and Mitchell counties who have been impacted by Hurricane Helene. These scholarships are designed to provide financial assistance for continuing education, whether that’s college, vocational training, or another career-focused program.

This is our way of investing in the future of our community and supporting students as they take the next step toward achieving their goals.

Applications are due April 11.

Eligibility Requirements

To apply for the Moving Mountains: Mountain Strong Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a graduating senior from a high school in Yancey or Mitchell County, or a homeschooled full-time resident of Yancey and Mitchell County with proof of expected completion of at least a 12th grade curriculum.

  • Have been directly or indirectly impacted by Hurricane Helene.

  • Plan to pursue post-secondary education at an accredited college, university, or vocational program.

Application Details

As part of your application, you will need to submit the following:

  1. Personal Information

    1. Full name and contact information (including address of permanent residency in Yancey or Mitchell County)

  2. Essay

    • Write a 500-word minimum - 1,000 word maximum essay addressing the following:

      • How Hurricane Helene has impacted you, your family, or your community.

      • How this scholarship will help you achieve your educational and career goals.

  3. Supporting Documents

    • High School Transcript

    • Letter of Recommendation (from a teacher, counselor, or community leader)

    • Proof of Application or Enrollment in a Post-Secondary Program

Application Deadline

All applications must be submitted by April 11, 2025. Recipients will be notified by April 30, 2025.
